HISTORY
Mary Flynn has been host of THE BLUE SIDE on WPR since April 4, 1988. The program presents the enduring tradition of blues and emphasizes out of print, non-commercial, or hard-to-find music. The primary foundation is Chicago-style blues, but also features blues from throughout the US and beyond.

Regular BLUE SIDE features include a weekly “The New Side of THE BLUE SIDE” featuring new releases; “Blues News” that promotes blues music events locally, statewide, nationally, and internationally; regular updates and information on blues artists; a holiday blues Christmas/Hanukkah/Kwanza feature; and the popular “Three Kings (Albert, BB, and Freddy)” feature every January. Other featured shows include the Chicago Blues Fest, Lucerne (Switzerland) Blues Fest, and other blues festivals reviews, promotions, and features.

INTENT
Exploring and presenting the finest Chicago and American blues to support the advancement of the genre for listeners now as well as generations to come.
